Filter List
Also known as: block list, ruleset
A regularly-updated list of URL patterns and CSS selectors used by ad blockers to decide what to block.
Filter lists are the brain of every ad blocker. The most famous are EasyList (general ads), EasyPrivacy (trackers) and the regional lists for non-English markets. Each line is a rule: a URL pattern to block, an element to hide, or an exception that overrides another rule.
Lists are maintained collaboratively, often by volunteers, and updated daily. The quality of an ad blocker depends as much on which lists it ships with and how quickly they sync as on its engine.
