Lesson 2 of 5
Filter lists explained
The crowd-sourced rule sets that power every blocker.
5 min read
A filter list is a plain-text file containing thousands of patterns describing what to block. EasyList covers global ads, EasyPrivacy targets trackers and regional lists cover country-specific networks.
Filter lists are open source, audited by volunteers and updated multiple times per day. NovaBlock subscribes to several maintained lists out of the box and adds its own curated rules on top.
Key takeaways
- EasyList + EasyPrivacy are the de-facto standard.
- Lists update continuously to react to new ad networks.
- Multiple lists can be combined without hurting performance.
